This list of classic cars will take you down memory lane.
Nothing can accelerate a driver’s heartbeat quite like an exciting car. With modern designs shifting towards the futuristic, many vehicles from the last century have become more and more sought-after.
Whether you’re a collector, an enthusiastic driver, or a mechanic: These cars will undoubtedly give you goosebumps. Just don’t expect any of the vehicles on this list to be cheap or economical.
#1: 1969 Chevy Camaro
The evergreen battle Mustang vs. Camaro has been going on for decades and will probably continue to do so in the future. Fans of both cars fight for their favorite religiously and go to great lengths to showcase their fandom. However, if you ask us, the Camaro gets the edge over the Mustang.
Why, you might ask? First off, the Chevy looks like a more refined version of the Mustang in terms of design. Ford’s powerhouse is a beauty, but the Camaro seems more fluid. Secondly, under the hood, Chevrolet made sure that the Camaro roars like a beast: 340 units of horsepower easily outshine the 1966 Mustang with its 230 PS. Besides that, the Mustang has become somewhat of a cliché: Whenever you ask someone for their favorite muscle car, be prepared to hear Ford Mustang as their answer.
#2: Aston Martin DB4
Before Sean Connery (a.k.a. James Bond) drove the iconic DB5 in Goldfinger, its predecessor was already turning heads and leaving people in awe. Aston Martin has been known for its classy cars for a long time, and the DB4 is no exception.
After a rocky start caused by design issues and faulty engine parts, the DB4 became one of Aston Martin’s most iconic cars of all time. The GT Zagato, a grand tourer version of the DB4, is one of the most sought-after classic sports cars: At a 2015 auction in New York, one bidder secured the DB4 GT Zagato for a whopping 14,3 million British Pounds (about 19,8 million US-Dollar at the time).
#3: Dodge Viper GTS (1996)
While not being as old as some of the other cars on this list, the Viper GTS is still one of the most iconic cars of the 20th century. Characterized by the raw power of over 400 PS, the Viper became known due to its trademark design with two thick stripes across the entire chassis. For most racing games and movies in the 1990s, the Viper GTS was a must-have.
One particular model famous amongst collectors is the 1996 Viper GTS. Given this car’s history, it is no wonder that models go for anywhere between $30,000 and $160,000. However, if you are looking thoroughly, you can also score a Viper GTS for a reasonable price.
#4: Chevrolet El Camino
Another vehicle from Chevrolet, the El Camino looks like something between a Camaro and a pickup truck. This is primarily owed to the extensive trunk, which sometimes featured no hood at all. For many, the El Camino perfectly blended power with design and utility. Therefore, it is no wonder that the car was so beloved during the height of its popularity.
The El Camino experienced somewhat of a revival in pop culture in recent years, primarily due to a Breaking Bad movie of the same name. Nonetheless, the El Camino is worth the experience.
#5: Mercedes 300SL Gullwing
Long before suicided doors became a thing, Mercedes was way ahead of the curve: With its gull-wing doors, the 300SL became one of the eye-catchers of the 1950s. While the design is still used in Mercedes cars today (such as the SLS AMG), nothing quite beats the feeling and style of the original. The car has been owned by numerous celebrities, including Paul Newman and Pablo Picasso, and nowadays can go for up to $1.15 million.
#6: 1978 Lincoln Continental
Back when Lincoln was one of the biggest car manufacturers in America, the Continental was everywhere, from New York to Los Angeles. Often seen in movies and tv shows, Lincoln’s trademark car was notorious for its distinctive grille. It was a symbol of style and wealth. To this day, the Lincoln Continental is probably one of the best-designed cars from its era.
#7: 1970 Chevrolet Impala
The third entry from Chevrolet in this list, the Impala achieved worldwide fame in the 1990s. When gangster movies like Boyz n the Hood ran in cinemas around the globe, the car became interconnected with hip-hop and African American culture. The 1970 Impala still enjoys great popularity in the lowrider scene and can often be seen at events and shows.
Nowadays, the Impala looks nothing like its predecessors. However, with the shift towards a more sedan-like approach in the 1980s, many fans of the original are aching for earlier designs. And looking at the beauty of a 1970 Chevy Impala, this is no surprise.
